Job Description

Position Objectives and Responsibilities

The Chief Estimator is responsible for leading, organizing, and managing Vericon’s estimating department, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

  • Lead and manage the estimating team—Provide leadership, training, and task assignment. Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment.
  • Review and oversee bid estimates: Managing the process from inception to completion with precision and thoroughness.
  • Evaluate project scope to identify potential risks and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Lead Value Engineering efforts during the Preconstruction Phase of projects when required.
  • Collaborate with Executives and Project Managers to ensure estimating strategies align with operational goals.
  • Process Improvement – Review, develop, and maintain estimating procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Perform post-project evaluation: Assess estimate accuracy and pinpoint areas for improvement.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors. Collaborating and building a strong subcontractor base to ensure the best pricing submission.
  • Financial management – Monitoring estimated costs to project costs to provide financial reports to track and improve bid accuracy.
  • Cost Estimation – Provide detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, subcontractors, and other project-related expenses.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial retail and corporate offices both new build and renovations
  • Previous estimating experience on projects up to $50M in value
  • Experience with Lump Sum, Cost Plus and GMP contract structures.
  • Strong math/analytical skills, impeccable problem-solving skills
  • Skilled in self-perform carpentry, drywall and acoustical ceiling take-offs; strong sitework and MEP knowledge is required, strong understanding of commercial construction processes
  • Strong ability to read and evaluate civil/architectural/MEP drawings and relevant contract documents
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines and manage time efficiently
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or comparable experience
