Job Description

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Intraoperative Support:
  • Assist oral surgeons during outpatient surgical procedures.
  • Ensure surgical environments are well-prepared.
  • Monitor patient vitals and comfort during procedures under sedation.
  • Preoperative Duties:
  • Conduct patient assessments and obtain thorough medical histories.
  • Facilitate and evaluate medical clearance for surgery, coordinating with primary care providers or specialists as needed.
  • Provide pre-operative instructions to patients and families.
  • Prepare patient for procedure including IV placement and medication administration.
  • Postoperative Care:
  • Oversee recovery and discharge processes in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on post-operative care, medication usage, warning signs, and follow-up instructions.
  • Provide follow-up communication to ensure smooth recovery and address concerns.
  • Team Leadership & Support:
  • Guide and support surgical assistants and other clinical team members.
  • Ensure clinical protocols are followed and assist with training new staff.
  • Promote best practices in infection control, safety, and patient care.
  • Administrative & Clinical Coordination:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed clinical documentation.
  • Coordinate with the front office and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient flow.
  • Assist in the implementation of quality improvement and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Registered Nurse (RN) with an active state license required; BSN preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in surgical, perioperative, Med-Surg, or outpatient clinical settings; oral surgery or dental experience is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Skills:
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
  • Comfort in fast-paced, team-oriented environments.

Working Environment:

  • Outpatient clinical and surgical setting.
  • Typical hours Monday–Friday with occasional extended hours based on surgical schedule.
  • Requires periods of standing, lifting, and working in a sterile environment.
